How to Use Your Passion to Make a Difference – DJ VOW – This is Me TV

Do you dream of making a difference in the world?

Really, think about that question for a moment and challenge yourself.

Do you dream of making a difference in the world?

Most of us have hopes and dreams that are so big that we are afraid this world cannot contain them. Our dreams feel impossible and our fear eats away at our hope.

DJ Vow knows what it’s like to have youthful dreams crushed by the reality of a hard life. Raised in a difficult home environment, he experienced the gang life while following in the footsteps of his older brother.

DJ Vow continued to follow his older brother all the way to church, where both of their lives were changed and saved from the destructive path they were going down.

As a young adult DJ Vow earned his namesake by making a vow to God that he would serve him with his whole life; his heart, passions, and path all belonged to God. Throughout his career DJ Vow has performed with many talented artists, including Lecrae, Andy Mindeo, and Tedashii.

DJ Vow says, “Music is music. It’s what you do with it that makes a difference.”

How can you use the inspiration of DJ Vow’s story to influence your own life? How can you take your dream and passion and make a difference in the world?

Make the Decision
Make the decision, or vow, to follow God with your heart and your life. That doesn’t mean you will be perfect, or that you will find worldwide fame and success. It does mean that by choosing the right path, to follow God and use your talents to worship him, your life will be pleasing to God and an inspiration to others.

Don’t put yourself in a box

You don’t need to be a Christian DJ, hockey player, writer or musician. Whatever you choose to do, you can step out of the Christian world and still serve God and bring honour to his name. Acting in integrity is far more important than how or where you choose to use your talents. Maybe you will serve in secular culture, but you will stand out because of your faith.

Hustle for your dream
Most of us has unrefined gifts and passions that haven’t been fully realized. It takes time to grow in your gifts, and energy to improve your talents. Be prepared to hustle if you want to pursue your dream. Work hard and watch as God grows your talent and influence.

Engage culture

Don’t forget about the world that we live in and the culture that is surrounding us. By seeking to use your passion to honour God and live with integrity the world will be both confused and intrigued. Being different is interesting, so don’t forget about the culture surrounding us, engage it, and point them to Jesus Christ.

Don’t let your passion consume you

Remember your purpose: to glorify God through pursuing your passion. God should always be your first priority, and when he isn’t we risk becoming consumed by our passion and losing our integrity. Don’t let your passion become your first priority. You will be far more effective as a world-changer when your purpose is clear and your priorities are straight.

Go make a difference

How can you make a difference in the world? God has a different plan for each of us, and the difference that we will make depends on his plan for our life. Pray to God and surrender your life to him. Allow him to control the way that you will influence the world around you. Watch as new opportunities come your way and grab them with both hands, giving God the glory along the way.

Overcoming Obstacles & Reaching Your Dreams – Manafest – This Is Me TV

Close your eyes and picture your greatest and most unreachable dream.

Is your heart racing and is fear beginning to set in?

Yes. That’s the one.

When something is set apart from reality, we call it a dream. It belongs in the land of the impossible, and your dreams can feel impossible to achieve.

Some of you recognize your dream as a God-given calling. Still, your fear of failure and perceived absurdity of the dream holds you back.

Canadian-born rapper Manafest has been there. He knows about the setbacks, failures, and pursuit of the big and impossible dream.

At the age of 14 Manfest began skateboarding: pursuing his one big dream of becoming a pro boarder. Unfortunately, an injury changed his path and devastated his pro-boarding dream.

Manafest refused to stay in the pit. He says that God spoke to him and provided him with a new dream: music. Today Manafest is an award-winning musician, author, and speaker. He uses his story to inspire others to pursue their dreams and is an example of a life lived with clear direction and purpose.

What does it take to overcome obstacles and pursue the dream of your future?

These seven tips will help to get on the right path to reaching your full potential and becoming who God made you to be.

1. Ask God to guide you

First, take a moment and sit quietly in prayer, and ask God: what do you want from me? Using your life for a clear purpose by choosing to follow the gifts and talents God has given you is a noble pursuit. Take a moment to be still before God and ask him to confirm the dreams of your heart.

2. Write down your goals

Grab a pen and paper and write down clear and specific goals for yourself. Where do you want to be in a month, a year, and over the course of your entire life? Keep these goals somewhere safe and look at them often as a reminder to press on as your pursue the dreams of your future.

3. Look to the future

Don’t look at the failures of your past, or what could have been. Live for the here and now and focus on the future that awaits you. Remember that you have the power to make the right changes and get your heart and life right before God. When you surrender your life and future to God you can have confidence that he will do great things in you.

4. Find a mentor

John C. Crosby once said “mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction”. If you can find a like-minded mentor who has gone before you in pursuing their goals you have found an invaluable resource. Mentorship is often overlooked, but it is a necessary component to remaining steadfast in the pursuit of your dreams, and inspiring you to see that they are possible.

5. Surround yourself with encouragers

Having other friends around you that believe in your dreams and stand beside you in solidarity and encouragement will give you the push that you need. In moments of frustration, or when you need some reinforcement, a good friend will be there to tell you that your dreams are possible and you’re on the right track.

6. Fight for what you want

Nobody reaches their dreams without a fight. The road to success is not an easy one, so be prepared to fight for what you want. You won’t be great at what you do from the beginning; trust the process and give yourself time to grow into the potential that God has given you. Your faith will bring you through the hard times, and give you the strength to fight hard when you need to.

7. Keep your foundation in Christ

When you first decide to pursue your dreams your roots need to be firm in your faith; your relationship with God will propel you forward. As you move towards your goals and begin to overcome obstacles you will need to stay grounded and remember the things that matter most to you. When you begin to see success – perhaps most importantly – you will need your faith to keep you centred. We all have seen successful people fall because of pride and a shallow character. Keeping your roots in your faith, family, and morals is important from the beginning.

Is the adrenaline pumping yet? Are you excited to get started on pursuing the passion of your heart?

This Is What Happens When You Take a Stand – This is Me TV – Jeff Goring

Can the world of hip hop, graffiti art, and break dancing collide with serving God?

If anyone can answer that question, it’s Jeff Goring.

Goring is a Canadian graffiti artist and break dancer who has chosen a counter-cultural approach to his art.

You won’t find this artist painting illegally on brick walls or train cars. His stand against illegal painting has led to opportunities to paint murals, TV and movie sets, and commissioned private works on canvas – just to name a few.

Jeff Goring This Is Me TV - 001

From the early days as a graffiti artist Goring earned respect as a man with a conscience who chose to do what was right, even when it was unpopular.  Goring refused to ignore his dream and waste his talent. Some would say a life as a graffiti artist is incompatible with following Christ, but Goring found a way to live for his passion and pursue his faith. He pursues his art without succumbing to the pressures associated with his scene, and has flourished because of it.

What happens when you take a stand for what is right, while still pursuing your dreams?

You earn respect

When you remain firm in your faith and refuse to budge you will earn the respect of those around. You can engage in the culture and not follow the unwise and unhealthy pasth that some do. Whether it’s deciding not to paint illegally, or something completely different, you will have the opportunity to say no.

Watch what happens when those around you see you take a stand, and then remain firm and unmoving. At first they might laugh, but over time they will respect you for your beliefs and values, and maybe even choose that path themselves.

Opportunities come knocking

If Goring had decided to follow the life of an illegal painter there is no way he would have been given the opportunities he has. As a respected member of his scene he has painted on movie sets, led local youth in painting lessons, and travelled the world as both a dancer and graffiti artist.

When you choose to stand firm in your faith and live with integrity the world will pay attention, and many will want to collaborate with and join you.

You are labelled as different

Those who choose to live with integrity will be met with setbacks, opponents, and pressure to bend to culture.

Embrace your difference, and allow yourself to stand out from the crowd. That is what will get you noticed, sometimes with negative feedback, but also with a chance to produce change and momentum for a different life.

God uses you in your community

Instead of giving up and deciding your passion doesn’t fit with living a life as a Christ follower, allow him to use you in the community he has placed you in. People will notice that you are serving something different. When everyone else is busy chasing success and serving their passion, you will be noticed as the one who uses their passion to serve God. Pray often and ask God to use you in the place he has placed you.

Jeff Goring This Is Me TV - 003

You will still make mistakes

Just because you follow Christ and are seeking to love him above all doesn’t mean that you will be a perfect example, all the time. Sometimes you will make mistakes, whether it’s bending to the pressure, or saying something that you know doesn’t represent God well.

Don’t give up, and don’t continue to give in to the pressure. Humble yourself, and know that God has already forgiven you. It’s never too late to start living a life of integrity, and it is okay to slip up and apologize. Move forward and pursue God with your life and passion.
